I find doing romantic things in Canberra can be very limiting, especially at night. Only certain parts of the city are open, which leaves you feeling like you’ll be the victim of a bashing if you walk through the other parts.
So I’ve tried and tested and now named it, the Canberra City Date Crawl. This is specific to Canberra City and hopefully I’ll get a chance to make ones for the other parts of Canberra.
This is ideal for any kind of date, 1st, 5th, 10th or 100th. Whatever is this is a great way just to enjoy an evening with a special lad or lady.
Dessert first: What’s better than starting with dessert? Head over to Koko Black and share a dish or maybe just get warm over one of their very delish Belgian hot chocolates. This place is often packed and you might find it hard to get a table, if so get a hot chocolate to take away and skip to the next idea.
Go for a stroll: During Winter you can go for a stroll through Garema Place and watch people at the ice skating rink or just take in the lights, artwork and surrounds.
The main course: My favourite restaurants in the city are Milk & Honey and Tongue & Groove. Milk & Honey is great for some traditional and alternative meals. The staff are usually spot on and I’ve never had a disappointing meal. Then there’s Tongue & Groove, which has an extremely social vibe, however the dining area has dim lighting, which feels very intimate. You can’t go wrong with either of these.
Nightcap: Now if you’re not ready to leave the night there and are keen to continue there are several spots in the City, which are great for a nightcap. My first suggestion is Playtime – if you can get a seat. It’s extremely relaxed and the service is great. Otherwise I would recommend a walk over to Kremlin bar and choose a cozy corner for some further chat or maybe a good decent make out session.
